How I got to Here
When I was 6 months old my parents took me on a boat ride across the Atlantic. I must have really enjoyed it as I have been traveling ever since. I have lived and worked in Europe, Asia, Central and South America and N. Africa. Seeing new places and mixing with other cultures is what I love to do.
My wife and I lived on a boat for about 17 years. I had a email account starting in 1985, when only numbers where assigned. One day they said "you can have a name". Nobody had had names and using my real name never occurred to me. Lostboater just sorta' jumped on the page. Getting lost never bothers me. To me, it just adds to the adventure. (I can honestly say I was never lost on the boat.)
In 2008, I turned 60 and had the 2008=60 Tour. I traveled, took new education courses and bought a Vespa Scooter. I took the Vespa on a “short” 1000 mile trip through the south. I loved it!!! I do one every year and have traveled as far away as California.
These are some of my travel diaries. I do not proof read, edit or worry to much about spelling. For that I apologize.
I started blogging as mainly away for me to keep track of my trips and, as an aside, to share with some friends. They have become quite popular, especially the Scooter Diaries, so I have formalized the process with a website. In 2013 the NY Times published a article of authors, Phillip Caputo and William Least Heat-Moon, discussing Be a Traveler not a Tourist and it pretty much tells of why I do what I do.
I hope you enjoy them.
